It is now time for local firms to support more Singaporean home-grown athletes after swimmer Joseph Schooling won Singapore's first Olympic gold medal.

It is disheartening if we still have to continue looking to foreigners overseas to help us excel in sports, even though we are still proud of them if they win us medals at the Olympics.

Much more can be done to focus our resources on budding Singaporean athletes at our educational institutions. Let us believe in them and invest in them.
