Take stiffer action against gas fraud

If City Gas had not detected Paradise group's tampering with its gas meters, the restaurant chain would have saved $640,000.

Now, it merely has to pay a $530,000 fine ("Paradise restaurant chain fined $530k for gas fraud"; June 25). For unethical businesses, it would make perfect sense to cheat on gas.

If such premeditated and prolonged actions were committed by an employee of a company, he would have been sentenced to prison.

Stiffer action ought to be taken against such errant companies.
