Set minimum security standards for organisers of big events

I was shocked by the lack of security at the Guns N' Roses concert at the Changi Exhibition Centre last Saturday.

There were 50,000 concertgoers, some with bags. The few security officers on duty looked overwhelmed by the crowd, and appeared more anxious to move patrons into the concert arena than to actually check tickets and bags.

Given the concerns over terrorist attacks the world over and all the efforts by our Government to promote SG Secure, I was quite shocked that concert organiser LAMC did not make tighter security arrangements.

In the light of the current heightened terrorism risk, perhaps the authorities should have some rules about minimum security checks and standards by organisers of events.
