The authorities should set up a team of auditors to check on all companies' safety measures and standard operating procedures ("SMRT ordered to ensure on-track work safety"; March 31).

Private and public companies must not wait until fatal accidents happen before they improve safety measures. The worst scenario is when accidents happen because basic safety measures were not adhered to.

All parties must ensure there are adequate safety measures in place, and that they are strictly followed and adhered to.
