Require motorised bike riders to buy insurance cover

I have seen many reckless motorised bicycle riders speeding near bus stops, and alighting bus passengers are at risk of getting injured by them ("Jail for motorised bike rider who hit pedestrian"; July 12).

It would be a good move to require motorised bikes to be registered with the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

It would be even better if the owners of such bikes are required to buy insurance to cover any legal liability arising from accidents which may result in death or injury to any person as well as damage to third-party property.

Third parties should be protected. I hope the LTA will introduce compulsory third-party insurance so that pedestrians can move about with peace of mind.
