Renovation contractors should provide waterproofing warranties

I refer to the recent debate about unresolved water leakage issues between home owners (Water leakage a big issue among homes; May 11).

Home owners are indeed at the mercy of renovation contractors who pay scant attention to the quality of waterproofing works.

The Housing Board maintains a registry of renovation contractors and is in the best position to tackle this persistent problem.

The HDB can simply require all registered contractors to provide a five-year warranty against all inter-floor waterproofing leaks.

This will reduce overall maintenance issues as well as prevent disputes between neighbours.
