Relocate bicycle stands along footpath

Every day, hordes of people use the sheltered footpath connecting JCube, Westgate, Jurong East MRT station and Jurong East bus interchange.

Numerous bicycles are also chained to the stands along the footpath.

These parked bicycles take up approximately half the width of the 4m-wide footpath.

This reduced space makes walking along the footpath tedious, and it can become very congested.

Next to the footpath is a plot of turfed land.

I suggest that the Land Transport Authority relocate the bicycle stands onto this site, after levelling the area, removing the turf and constructing a concrete floor.

Double-tier bicycle stands can be installed in lieu of the existing mild steel railings.

This will enable bicycles to be stacked neatly and also accommodate more bicycles on site.

With the removal of the bicycle stands, the footpath would become more spacious and allow a smoother flow of human traffic.

I hope the authorities will look into this proposal.
