I agree with Dr Humphrey Pong that fries are often wasted at fast-food outlets ("Chip away large servings of fries"; Jan 21). He provided some very good ideas to reduce food wastage.
I have noticed another area which can be improved upon.
Many mixed vegetable rice stalls in foodcourts charge customers the same price whether or not they order rice to go with the dishes.
Hence, this encourages customers to always order rice. However, I notice that many of them do not actually consume all their rice.
These stalls should allow customers to order less rice or no rice, at a reduced cost.
This will also benefit them as consumers who do not want carbohydrates or want less carbohydrates will be more inclined to patronise them.
