Probe lapses at town council

Independent auditor KPMG has given a damning report on Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC) in the way it handled some payments ("Some lapses may amount to criminal conduct: KPMG"; yesterday).

What is really troubling is that KPMG also stated in its report that AHTC may be liable for serious offences under the Penal Code.

In the light of this report, the Government should get to the root of this matter and refer the matter to the police or the Attorney-General's Chambers to investigate if a criminal act has really been committed.

If indeed a criminal offence has been committed, the people responsible must be taken to task.
