PE lessons should teach more practical skills

Physical education lessons in school should teach students more practical skills, such as how to ride a bicycle or to skate.

I was surprised to learn that some of my friends did not know how to ride a bicycle or skate.

Picking up physical skills is easier at a young age, and it can be more fun if it is done in a group, such as during PE lessons in school.

These activities also dovetail with the Government's plan to promote a more active lifestyle among Singaporeans.

More people being able to cycle, or even skate, will also support the car-lite push in Singapore, as commuters will have an alternative form of healthy transport.

Cycling and skating lessons during PE should also focus on road safety, given that increasingly, roads and pavements will be shared by various types of users.
