FATHER'S Day is celebrated worldwide to recognise the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children ("Fitting Father's Day tribute - tree with strong roots"; Thursday).

A father is the biggest source of strength for any child. He is the most powerful, knowledgeable, affectionate and important person in the family.

For daughters, their fathers are the first men they adore. For sons, their fathers are the strongest people they know and aspire to emulate.

Even for grown children, their fathers are the ones they look up to for experienced and honest advice that is in their interest.

Sadly, many busy career-minded people simply ignore their fathers when they are old and sick. We should continue to shower them with love and care until the very last moment.

On Father's Day tomorrow, it is our duty to pay tribute to this great figure in our lives.

Let us give due recognition to the important role fathers play in the welfare and development of each child, and express our thanks to our fathers for their unconditional love and affection.
