Parents, teachers should align mindsets

Teachers have the authority to educate, and parents have the duty to raise children to have good moral values and respect for teachers ("Respect teachers as partners in education" by Mr Li Mingda; Oct 22).

There are certainly some students who are over-imaginative and report matters to their parents.

There are also parents who jump the gun and question the teacher's authority about everything without checking first.

We do not question a doctor's expertise in treating a patient.

Likewise, parents should leave it to teachers to mould students into better adults.

Both parents and teachers play important roles in a child's development.

Parents should not question the teacher's sphere of influence, and teachers should not question the parents' duty to educate the child at home.

Rather, their mindsets should be aligned in order to mould future leaders.
