We Singaporeans need every source of inspiration to help us achieve a sense of unity.
Founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew is the centrepiece of that inspiration. And if we Singaporeans, in deifying Mr Lee (and we are not), achieve that sense of common history and unity, it is really not so bad.
For Singaporeans to immortalise Mr Lee would be unbecoming of a rational and productive nation.
But if Singaporeans use Mr Lee as a cornerstone in uniting our nation in a positive way, I doubt he would vehemently object.
