Make anti-scam helpline number easy to remember

The new helpline initiated by the National Crime Prevention Council will help the public, especially seniors, not fall victim to scammers ("New helpline to fight rapidly evolving scams"; Nov 21).

However, the new helpline number, 1-800-722-6688, is in operation only from Mondays to Fridays, between 9am and 5pm, and not on public holidays.

To facilitate communication, the authorities could amend the number to one that is easy to remember, say "888". Also, the preferred operation hours should be 24/7.

As for the television commercial to spread more public awareness, it should include common dialects to help seniors understand the common modes of cheating.
