Much has been written about the need to reduce our sugar intake. The Feb 20 article, "Beware the sugar content in your favourite drink", warns of how much sugar there is in what we drink daily.
A practical way to wean ourselves and our children off sugary drinks is to get into the habit of diluting them. We do not need to deprive ourselves of fruit juices or soft drinks.
Teach children to share packet or canned drinks with friends. Just get a bottle of water as well to dilute the sweet drinks, and have extra cups.
The habit can be started at home. Dilution can be slowly increased so one's taste for sweet drinks will taper off.
It is all a matter of habit.
