Link up Pasir Ris and Punggol by train

The Transport Ministry was certainly on the right track when it planned its extension of the Jurong Region Line to meet the Circle Line ("Jurong Region Line may be extended to join Circle Line"; Aug 26).

Perhaps it can also consider linking the North-East and East-West Lines.

It seems logical to link Punggol and Pasir Ris - two Housing Board estates close to each other but perceived to be far apart due to the limited access and lack of connectivity between them.

North-east Singapore is now a dense and popular housing estate. Many residents there travel daily to their workplaces in Changi, Tampines and Pasir Ris.

The fastest route for them is through the busy Tampines Expressway, which quickly becomes congested in the mornings and evenings, and employees frequently urge their companies to charter private buses for them.

Linking Pasir Ris and Punggol by train will create more travel options for all.

I hope the Transport Ministry will put this on its "to-do" list for future plans to integrate the network of MRT lines.
