Levy water-based tax on private pools

I agree that Singapore needs to conserve water. It may be appropriate for the authorities to consider imposing an additional yearly luxury levy on all private swimming and wading pools, based on the cubic capacity of such pools.

This luxury levy would be applicable to all landed properties, condominiums, executive condominiums and exclusive private clubs with private swimming and/or wading pools.

Public swimming pools would be exempt.

The authorities should also monitor the development plans of all future property projects, especially those that incorporate features attractive to prospective buyers but which will consume excessive potable water.
