Leaders cannot make irresponsible remarks

I read with great disbelief and utmost shock the remarks by Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla, who had previously said that "for 11 months, they (Singapore) enjoyed nice air from Indonesia and they never thanked us... they have suffered because of the haze for one month and they get upset" ("Strong comments from S'pore"; Sept 26).

It is almost like a country that started a war telling the world that it should be thankful for all the years that the people enjoyed peace, and that they should not complain over suffering just a short period of war.

Coming from a country's leader, such remarks are irresponsible.
