I read with interest that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is reviewing third-party private car apps ("'Framework needed' for third-party taxi apps"; Oct 5).
One other issue the LTA should review as well is the implication of taxi drivers using these apps, such as UberTaxi and GrabTaxi.
I am a taxi driver and I use both these apps. I have increased my earnings with lesser cruising.
However, one concern I have is regarding the insurance, in the event of an accident while I am ferrying passengers who book my cab using these apps.
I have heard from many cabbies that taxi operators will reject any insurance claim if taxis are booked through third-party apps.
If this is true, cabbies will be caught in limbo.
If the LTA approves these third-party apps, taxi drivers and passengers should be protected by law in the event of an accident.
