Hire ex-teachers for admin jobs in schools

In the light of the current situation for teachers ("Helping teachers to manage their workload"; Oct 23), and the call for their administrative load and working hours to be reduced, it is time for the Ministry of Education (MOE) to look towards former or retired teachers who may be looking for a change.

They may not have experience in dealing with the technical aspects of running a school, but they bring with them a wealth of teaching experience and willingness to learn, and are intimately familiar with a school environment.

They could be ideal for the posts of vice-principal (administration) or operations managers in schools.

I urge the MOE to consider hiring former teachers to relieve the administrative workload on its current staff.
