Good to focus on Zika cure

I agree with Dr Yik Keng Yeong ("Singapore can be at forefront of search for Zika cure"; Sept 20).

Currently, a popular measure to reduce the mosquito population is the release of genetically modified (GM) male mosquitoes to breed with females in the wild in an attempt to sterilise them.

The recent outbreak of microcephaly during Brazil's Zika crisis has led some critics to point the finger at the release of the GM mosquitoes in north-eastern Brazil, while others call for further tests to be conducted.

In this respect, looking for a cure is highly preferred. So, let us focus on this.
