Give older workers priority in certain jobs

Amid the debate on the employability of older workers, perhaps employers should consider giving priority to older workers for certain jobs ("Help wanted? Look to workers in their 50s" by Mr Loh Wai Poon; Oct 24, "Determine real reasons for bias against older workers" by Mr Lionel Loi Zhi Rui; Oct 25, and "Programmes available to help firms employ mature workers" by the National Trades Union Congress; Oct 29).

For instance, bus operators may designate two grades of drivers - trunk and feeder.

The latter would drive feeder service routes, which are less demanding, as they cover shorter distances. This may be more attractive to older workers.
