On Oct 13, at about 6.45pm, I tried to get an account update from a POSB ATM at Sunshine Place in Choa Chu Kang.
Midway through the process, the machine logged out. I removed my card and proceeded to the next machine only to be told by a passer-by that I had not collected my money from the dispenser.
I was surprised as I had not made a withdrawal.
I then received an SMS alert from POSB stating that money had been withdrawn from my account, with the amount matching that of the cash dispensed.
I called POSB and told its staff to shut down the machine remotely as money was being dispensed without authorisation. If I had not been warned by the kind woman, I would have left my cash at the machine without realising it.
But I was told the machine could not be shut down remotely and that the bank would send someone to rectify the problem.
An hour passed and the machine still appeared to be operating, albeit faultily, but no POSB personnel had arrived. So, I had to make a second call.
I am disappointed at this apparent lack of concern. Money could have been lost, unnoticed until it was too late.
