Fall in crime but stay alert

I congratulate the Singapore Police Force for having completed the installation of more than 62,000 police cameras in Housing Board blocks and multi-storey carparks that help to deter and solve crimes ("Police cameras helped solve over 1,100 cases"; July 12).

Personally, I believe that the number of cases of theft, pilfering of bicycle or car parts, and vandalism has nosedived.

Although the present situation looks safe and secure, we should not let our guard down.

We must be alert, cautious and sensitive to what is happening in our immediate surroundings and our neighbourhoods.

We also need to be proactive rather than leave matters of safety and security solely to the authorities.

I look forward to the completion of the PolCam 2.0 initiative by December 2020.

I thank the police for their commitment to leverage technology as part of their crime-fighting and counter-terrorism strategies to ensure a safe and secure home for everyone.
