Decorate trains for every festival

I have seen a trend emerging in recent years wherein the environment and public transport are increasingly being decorated for Christmas ("Riding high on Christmas cheer"; ST Online, Dec 15).

While most people look forward to the year-end Christmas and New Year holidays, public corporations bearing the Singapore name should be aware of their role in maintaining our society's multiracial status.

If MRT trains are being decorated with Christmas decorations, then trains should also be decorated during Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Deepavali.

Singapore Airlines can also decorate its plane cabins accordingly when it is the respective festive season.

Private companies can decide which festivals they want to mark.

But public corporations are different.

Let us not emphasise a certain festival over others, at the risk of creating a divide.
