Constantly disappointing football won't unite people

Mr George Pasqual has said that football has the power to rally a country's citizens together (Funding cuts for FAS poorly timed; Sept 15).

This was true when Singapore was a new nation, competing against our neighbour in the Malaysia Cup.

But perpetual disappointment by our Lions will not unite Singaporeans.

Today, Singapore football fans are more likely to swear allegiance to clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea.

The S-League's funding cuts are long overdue.

Sports that have won medals in the SEA Games deserve the money more to go a few steps further.
