Citizens must play their role

Singaporeans are in shock that 27 radicalised Bangladeshis were held under the Internal Security Act ("27 radicalised Bangladeshis held under ISA"; Jan 21).

It is unthinkable that such a big radical group was being formed in the midst of our community.

This sends a strong signal to every Singaporean that we should not take peace for granted in the face of the global terrorism threat.

We should not wholly entrust the responsibility of national security to the Government. As citizens, we also play a pivotal role to support the authorities and provide vital information on suspicious activities.

We are as responsible as the Government for keeping our country safe and peaceful, and to prevent any person or group from disrupting this.

Our country is highly respected for being safe, efficient and beautiful, and with a strong and incorruptible Government. These factors draw businesses to operate here, foreigners to work here and tourists to visit.

Any terror attack here will strike fear in the hearts of many, undermine our stability and will be detrimental to our country's image.
