Broadcast media must uphold highest level of English

Mr Tan Teck Huat's letter touched a raw nerve, but hit the nail on the head (Don't mistake poor English for Singlish; Oct 11).

The many efforts to improve the standard of English in Singapore, most notably the Speak Good English campaign, have yet to find much success.

The spat between proponents of standard English and those of Singlish is still ongoing.

I agree that our television and radio broadcast media uphold the standard of English very well.

The broadcast network is an integral part of our media. We must uphold the highest level of pride and professionalism in our broadcasts, lest complacency set in.
