Be vigilant against divisive reports

Singaporeans must be mindful of the concept of Total Defence and play our part in maintaining our country as a multiracial, multicultural and multi-religious place to live in ("Australia 'regrets' TRS website editor's jail term"; March 25).

Citizens should keep themselves well informed, be it through mainstream or non-mainstream media.

We should be on the lookout for reports that accuse or discriminate against people because of race, language, religion or nationality.

When in doubt, we should get more information from different sources, and refrain from making biased comments.

Disquiet or even social tension can be sparked off by insensitive deeds or words.

Being a cosmopolitan city state, we must be vigilant against suspicious reports that may divide us, so we can continue to live in harmony.
