Ban on stay and work may not deter some foreign bond breakers

Some foreign students see Singapore as merely a stepping stone to what they consider greener pastures overseas.

Thus, for such students who break their bonds and do not pay liquidated damages, banning them from working or residing in Singapore will be of little consequence or deterrence ("Foreign students who break bond may face ban on stay and work"; Aug 16).

I hope the Government will consider a more effective penalty to deter irresponsible bond breaking where students don't pay liquidated damages.
