All the right moves with new Cabinet

I applaud and support the Cabinet changes as announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong ("PM names Cabinet aimed at leadership succession"; Sept 29).

The Cabinet changes signal a very strong move by PM Lee that he is preparing the fourth-generation leadership in positions of heavy responsibility during this Cabinet term, before the next general election.

I also applaud the move to give Ms Grace Fu and Mr Masagos Zulkifli their own ministries to helm for the first time ("Grace Fu finds place in history with two firsts" and "Masagos to take charge of MEWR, help handle Muslim affairs"; both published on Sept 29).

Mr Khaw Boon Wan is a very experienced minister and he will do a good job in his new role as transport minister.

Mr Heng Swee Keat's appointment as the new finance minister is a good move as well ("Heng to helm Finance, MTI to have 2 ministers"; Sept 29). He is experienced and well versed in finance and economics; he was also managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore before entering politics in 2011.

Lastly, I applaud the renomination of Madam Halimah Yacob as Speaker of Parliament when Parliament convenes next January ("Halimah Yacob to be re-nominated as Speaker of Parliament"; ST Online, Sept 28).

She has done well in her Speaker role and I hope that she will continue to be fair to all MPs during the debate in Parliament, by providing them sufficient time to present their opinions, including opposition MPs and Nominated MPs.

I hope all the ministers and other office-holders will perform their best and continue to support PM Lee for the benefit of Singaporeans.
