I was in the vicinity of the Padang last Saturday when the National Anthem, Majulah Singapura, was played during the National Day Parade rehearsal.

While the anthem was playing, I was dismayed to see many people carrying on with their activities instead of standing at attention as a mark of respect.This act should not be condoned.

The National Anthem embodies the nation's hopes and ideals. Dignity and decorum should be observed whenever it is played or sung.

As we draw closer to National Day, I urge Singaporeans and guests of the country to accord proper respect whenever our National Anthem is played.
