Who: Irene Louis, 42, counsellor.
My family: Married to lawyer Raphael Louis, 45, with a daughter, Nadia, 10.
My home: A condo unit in Punggol.
My passions: Helping people in their mental and emotional health; anything to do with marriage and parenting, and building and developing friendships. My hobbies are reading - I'm always looking out for good reads and The Sunday Times has given many good suggestions - and cycling.
I first started writing to the Forum page in...: 2012.
What I write about: Parenting, children's education, relationship issues.
Why I write: To raise concerns. My first letter was about high costume costs for the various performances and graduation ceremonies for kindergarteners.
I write also to show appreciation for people and organisations/society groups that I have benefited from in one way or other. Some of my letters were about the great staff at my daughter's primary school and neighbours who have looked out for my family and helped us in so many ways.
I read the Forum page because...: It is the most personal section, reflecting people's experiences and concerns. I was particularly moved by a letter many years ago in which the writer shared about her pain of having to abort a pregnancy as she could not afford to raise two more children - she was carrying twins. Also, I sometimes get to know or learn something that may not be in the news.
My wish for Singapore: That children truly enjoy their childhood, cope with stress in a healthy manner and grow up to be resilient, and that people are kinder and more open and considerate.
