Who: Ooi Mun Kong, 53, senior systems engineer.

My family: Married to Lay Heng Meng, who works part time as a personal assistant, with two sons - Wing Sun, 20, who will be completing his national service soon, and Yen Sun, 18, who has just completed his A-level exams.

My home: A five-room flat in Pasir Ris.

My passions: Watching Hollywood classics - those made in the 1950s and earlier ones, especially film noir. I also like to dabble in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet in depth, as it is a great problem-solving tool and outlet for creativity.

I first started writing to the Forum page in...: 2015

What I write about: Topics that affect our daily lives, for example, environmental matters, or ideas that might have otherwise escaped public attention.

Why I write: Partly to improve my writing skills but, more importantly, to play a part in contributing a voice towards making Singapore a better place.

I read the Forum page because...: Problem solving requires feedback and input from concerned quarters and various segments of society, and the Forum page is the place where stakeholders' views are aired and shared.

My wish for Singapore: That Singaporeans be worldly-wise and concerned about affairs happening around the world. That we can be a people who are prosperous yet humble, and who eschew wastage and value frugality.
