Name/Age/Occupation: Low Siew Hua, 59, retired school teacher

My family: Married, with a daughter, 21, and a son, 18.

My home: A maisonette in Jurong West.

My Hobbies: Reading, writing, travelling and playing Scrabble.

I first started Writing to Forum page in...: March 2013.

What I write about: I write mainly on issues pertaining to education and other topics of the day, particularly if it involves something I feel strongly about.

I also write in response to some letters in the Forum page which at times contain views that I find one-sided or not completely substantiated.

Why I write: I write to hone and keep up my writing skills and to keep my mental faculties up to par after retirement.

Why I read the Forum page : I read the Forum page as it is an eye-opener to see things from another person's perspective and it helps me feel the "heartbeat" of Singaporeans - the issues that tug at the hearts of the readers. Reading and writing are two sides of the same coin.

Reading the Forum page provides the soil for my ideas to grow and "bloom" into the letters I send to the Forum page.

My wish for Singapore : Politically - that we may maintain our political stability; economically - may we keep our competitive edge on the world stage; socially - let us keep in mind the fragility of our multiracial harmony, not take it for granted and strive to maintain it; and environmentally, may we maintain and improve on our standing as a beautiful Garden City that is clean and green.

This last wish is close to my heart - let us strive to make Singapore a cleaner and greener home for all.
