Without a law, many won't take up policy

I applaud NTUC Income for its initiative, and I hope other insurers will follow suit, so that people will have a choice ("Insurer launches policy for cyclists, users of mobility devices"; Thursday).

However, unless the law mandates insurance for cyclists and users of personal mobility devices (PMD), just like for vehicle drivers, many will likely not be bothered to take up the policy.

Hence, those in the cycling and PMD communities should strongly encourage their members to be insured, for their own safety and the safety of others, and to protect the value of their bikes and PMDs.
