The two incidents of public buses ending up in a field and tennis court (right) are alarming ("SBS Transit bus stuck in tennis court at Yio Chu Kang; second incident of wayward bus in 2 days"; ST Online, Sept 30).

Several areas need to be looked into as the bus operators conduct their investigations:

  • Are bus drivers adequately trained in terms of driving hours and familiarity of the roads before they are certified ready to ply the roads?
  • Are drivers being overstretched in terms of driving hours, resulting in fatigue as a cause of the accidents?
  • Do training and/or safety protocols have to be reviewed and refined?
