Ways to cut down on plastic waste

The environmentally friendly water dispensers at the Singapore Zoo and River Safari ("Working to put a cap on plastic bottle waste"; Nov 25) are a good idea.

Fewer plastic bottles are used when people obtain water from the water dispensers instead of buying bottled water.

Besides reducing the number of plastic bottles that are thrown away, we can also reduce the amount of plastic bags and plastic boxes used.

When we go shopping, we should take along our own shopping bags. When buying takeaway food, we should use our own containers. We can also use our own water bottles during outings instead of purchasing bottled water.

This way, we can cut down on the amount of plastic waste generated in our beautiful garden city.
