Train door safety: SMRT replies

We read with concern Mr Ronnie Neo Soon Heng's experience while travelling on the Circle Line from Bishan MRT station ("Improve train door safety"; last Thursday).

We are sorry for the situation Mr Neo encountered during his journey and would like him to call us on our customer hotline on 1-800-336-8900 or e-mail us at smrt.com.sg/feedback, as we would like to find out more details about the incident.

Circle Line trains and stations are equipped with a number of features that take care of passenger safety and comfort.

These include:

  • Customer service ambassadors who are stationed at platforms to assist commuters throughout the day at interchange stations such as Bishan.
  • Warning lights flashing above platform screen doors to indicate that doors are closing. This is accompanied by chimes from the train cabin.
  • Sensors on both the platform screen doors and train doors will trigger the doors to pull back briefly when they come into contact with a commuter while closing.
  • A longer train dwell time is catered for at interchange stations to take into account higher commuter traffic.

Passenger safety is a key concern and priority for us.

We hope that Mr Neo will contact us soon.
