STTA decision about allocation of scarce resources

The Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) made a good move in allocating its scarce labour and capital resources with its exclusion of Feng Tianwei ("Sudden move raises questions about table tennis body itself''; last Wednesday).

While Feng has brought pride to Singapore with three Olympic medals and is the Republic's top-ranked table tennis player, it is evident that her performance has been on a decline.

The move by STTA to focus on grooming promising players is a reasonable one as by doing so, it is putting its resources to better use.

It is also no longer important to consider how much the STTA had spent on Feng as that is a sunk cost.

The association should be commended for its willingness to take the hard decision.
