Step up efforts against terror threat

I agree with Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam about the ISIS terror threat ("ISIS terror threat greater now"; Dec 3).

There has been strong support for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) all over the world by various individuals, causing them to leave their homelands for Syria.

The ISIS threat is so lethal that even our neighbouring countries have individuals ready to serve the terrorist group.

We need to step up efforts to engage young people about the disadvantages of engaging in terrorism, and to stem its toxic influence online.

We also need to educate citizens about being vigilant and to report any suspicious activity they witness.

We need to train our military and strengthen our police force, especially those in special operations.
