Spark interest in current affairs

I agree with Lee Song Yang that youngsters here need to get more involved and be more aware of current affairs, especially issues that concern their future ("Youth interest essential for future"; last Wednesday).

The future of Singapore lies in the hands of the younger generation, and it is sad that most youngsters these days are unconcerned about or oblivious to the current affairs that should be close to their hearts.

I urge the Government to do more to get our young people more involved in current affairs.

Schools can also do more to encourage students to take more interest in Singapore affairs, such as educating them during lessons.

If this can be sustained, we can achieve better.
