In the light of the foiled plot to fire a rocket at Marina Bay ("Plot to attack Marina Bay with rocket from Batam foiled"; last Saturday), what measures are organisers of the upcoming Bintan Spartan Race 2016 taking to ensure the safety and security of the thousands of Singaporeans and foreigners who will be flocking to Bintan in November to participate in the race?

Bintan is not far from Batam, and both are popular tourist destinations in the Indonesian Riau Archipelago. A militant group even previously threatened to attack key ports in Bintan ("Batam's terror links"; last Saturday).

Perhaps organisers should look at moving the race to another venue.
