Perhaps the authorities could consider getting employers to pay their maids through Giro.
This will ensure that there are no hiccups if an employer suddenly develops a serious long-term illness and is unable to pay the maid's salary.
For these foreign workers' accounts, banks could do away with the requirement of maintaining a daily average of $500.
