I applaud the steps taken by the National Parks Board to stop the abuse of free parking spaces in parks ("Charged parking at parks to regulate usage, prevent abuse"; Thursday).
Last year, I brought the carpark issue at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to NParks' attention.
The carpark was being turned into a parking space for heavy vehicles as well as motorists from neighbouring blocks dodging season parking fees, hence depriving genuine park users of needed parking space.
While free parking at parks will be welcomed by park users, the need to prevent errant motorists from taking advantage of it - at the expense of others - is an issue to be addressed as well.
Perhaps, as Madam Jessy Leow Siew Kim suggested ("Impose carpark fee at parks only during peak hours"; Tuesday), different charges for different hours will provide a win-win solution for all.
