New online platform to help decide on electricity purchases

We thank Mr Eugene Tay Tse Chuan for his suggestion to disclose the carbon footprint and environment performance of electricity retailers (Enable residents to opt for greener electricity provider; Oct 24).

In the second half of next year, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) is opening up the retail electricity market in Singapore to provide the remaining 1.3 million accounts, mainly households, with choice and flexibility in their electricity purchases.

To help consumers make informed choices, EMA will be developing an online information portal.

The portal will summarise the standard retail plans offered by the retailers, including both price information and non-price information such as how much of the electricity supply is from renewable sources like solar, and any value-added services.

We encourage consumers to use this platform, when available, to shop for electricity price plans that best meet their needs.
