Need for more accountability in church offerings

In the light of the City Harvest Church case ("Six accused in City Harvest trial guilty of all charges"; Oct 22), it is time for the authorities to step in to ensure accountability over the use of tithes and offerings.

This includes "love gifts" and "multi-purpose special accounts" if such funds are sought from members.

Wherever possible, such information should be made public to church members at a church's annual general meeting, which most churches conduct each year.
