I am optimistic about the success of the nationwide locker system as online shopping becomes more popular ("Nationwide locker system to be rolled out in Singapore next year: Tharman"; ST Online, Nov 1).

Some online shoppers leave the office late and will not be able to make it to the post office in time to collect their parcels during operation hours.

With the locker system, they can collect their goods at their convenience; they can also avoid long queues at post offices.

But what will the impact of this system be on the labour force in this sector? Will manpower be scaled down at post offices? However, there may be more jobs available in the delivery service sector.

While technology brings pros and cons, it still enhances our lives and we should embrace it.

The nationwide locker system will bring greater convenience and efficiency.
