Measures to guide consumers on cutting food wastage

We thank Mr Samuel Chua Te Jie for his feedback ("Publish guide for households on reducing food waste"; last Thursday).

The National Environment Agency (NEA) agrees that there is a need for everyone to play an active role to avoid wasting food and to encourage family and friends to do the same.

To raise awareness on reducing food wastage, the NEA launched a programme in November last year to encourage consumers to adopt smart food purchasing, storage and preparation habits that can help them save money while avoiding food wastage.

As part of the programme, the NEA will continue to distribute educational materials, such as a food wastage reduction guide for consumers, at community events to reach out to households.

The guide provides a wide range of useful tips on how to reduce food wastage at home, when dining out and when catering food.

Members of the public can also view and download an online version of the guide at www.cgs.sg/fwrguide
