Lights at Singapore race not left on for 24 hours

We thank Mr Ken Hickson for his views (Light up the night, switch off in the day; Sept 20).

The track lights for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix are never "left on for 24 hours a day during the course of the event".

Instead, they are switched on only for approximately 12 to 15 hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, depending on weather and light conditions.

This is to facilitate necessary track works overnight and minimise disruption to the event at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Singapore GP adopts a policy to turn the track lights off when they are not in use.
